Global: Shipping Costs Start to Crimp Globalization

The world economy has become so integrated that shoppers find relatively few T-shirts and sneakers in Wal-Mart and Target carrying a “Made in the U.S.A.” label. But globalization may be losing some of the inexorable economic power it had for much of the past quarter-century, even as it faces fresh challenges as a political ideology.

India: Power Min holds coal cos responsible for fuel shortage

Faced with acute power shortage in the country, the power ministry has passed the buck on coal ministry for not pulling up companies under its purview for augmenting supplies.

The Power Ministry has blamed the coal producing firms of not meeting the demand of coal-based thermal power plants which constitutes 53.3 percent (76,645 MW) of the country's total power generation capacity.

India: From Aug 8, no petrol on Sundays

Sunday closed. If you thought that only shops have this sign, think again. Soon, even petrol pumps in the city will remain closed on Sunday.

Worse, the Nagpur Petrol and High Speed Dealers (HSD) association has also decided to keep petrol pumps open only for 12 hours, that is, from 8 am to 8 pm from Monday to Saturday.

Pakistan: Gas supply position to be worse in January 2009

The country is likely to face serious gas shortage in the upcoming winter season and the shortfall has been estimated at 1083 mmcfd in the month of January, official sources told Daily Times Saturday.

Total demand in the month of January is projected to be 4132 mmcfd against the supply of 3049 mmcfd, leaving a shortfall of over a 1000 mmcfd in peak season.
