Following the severe power crisis across the country, the donors including the WB, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Japan pledged funds for several power generation projects in early 2006.
The country is now experiencing power supply shortfall of more than 1200MW.
The power problem has already affected the industrial growth in the country as the entrepreneurs are now reluctant to invest.

Pakistan: Persistent load-shedding stirs power riots
Owing to persistent power outages, angry consumers of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) took to the streets and resorted to rioting on Sunday. This resulted in traffic jams in various parts of the city.
Angry residents of Mirza Adam Khan Road, Lyari, took to the streets against unending power outages in their area. They blocked the road, torched tyres and also attacked the area KESC office. They were, however, dispersed by the police in a couple of hours.
