Morning traffic was brought to a standstill on Tuesday by Gurgaon residents protesting acute shortage of power and water. The city has been battling severe power and water crisis, made worse by the delay in arrival of monsoon and the heatwave.

As per official estimates, the power demand in the city has surpassed previous records and continues to rise. On June 28, the demand was to the tune of 1,528.33 lakh units (the highest demand for one day), against 1,127.45 lakh units on the same day last year, said Amit Kumar Agrawal, Managing Director of Dakhshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN).
