In 2011, China's electricity shortages hit a high of 30,000 MW in January, followed by a second peak of 25,000 MW in July, according to a statement Tuesday by the country's top economic planning body, the National Development and Reform Commission.
According to a report Wednesday by state media Economic Information, citing Que Jing, the head of the statistics department under the China Electricity Council, peak electricity shortage levels in 2012 are expected to be similar to 2011 levels.
