Description
A major blackout struck Caracas and most of Venezuela on Thursday at about 3:30 p.m. local time, hitting at least 18 states and the Greater Caracas,.
The outage was due to a power failure in a 765-kilovolts (kV) major transmission line between La Horqueta and San Gerónimo power substations which connect Guri hydroelectric power plant, the most important generating center in Venezuela, with central and western states of the country, said Minister of Electric Energy Alí Rodríguez Araque.
