I'd like to thank Tom Whipple for mentioning the site in his article today.
The Peak Oil Crisis: Load Shedding
Once again, and as always, thanks to you too for visiting. If you have stories or links that you would like to share please feel free to post. If you find errors or broken links, I would very much appreciate them being pointed out.
I went through the "Complete List" yesterday and found a few broken links and a few unrecoverable stories (even after an extensive Google search). Generally, when I can't "prove" a story through a link I will drop it from the count. Tom mentioned 96 different places in his article, but today there is only 95 because of the "Complete List" review. It varies somewhat although the trend since this project was started has been up.
One more thing, perceptive readers, or those very bored, will see that the map has more than 95 placemarks. That's because very large countries, like Canada, often have spot energy issues. Canada counts as one entity on the list because of a strategic issue with energy in Ontario. The USA is on the list because of the very many frequent issues with diesel and natural gas in Alaska and, during last summer, North Dakota.
It's not a perfect "operational definition" but I feel it gives a sense to the problems. My developer friend and I are working on a new mapping module to better visually represent the issues. It's almost ready!
