Bolivia: La gasolina escaseó ayer en La Paz

Service stations in the city of La Paz were left yesterday without gasoline and many people complained by the continuous disruption.

For two weeks, the supply of fuel in La Paz this is not normal and will not be regularized. Yesterday again the acute shortage of fuel, which were formed long lines. Workers from some suppliers said they received half of the quotas established.

Canada (Alberta): Alberta diesel shortage leads to spike in fuel theft

The diesel fuel shortage is having a domino effect in Alberta — construction projects are in jeopardy, retailers are rationing fuel and diesel theft is spiking.

Theft has become such a problem, according to David Strauss with Roy Larson Construction in Grande Prairie, that his company no longer fuels up trucks or machinery unless they're going to be used immediately.

India: Thermal plants face coal shortage

More than 60 per cent of India’s coal-based power plants are running with less than a week’s consumption of coal, threatening to affect power availability at a time when India’s peak deficit is hovering at around 15 per cent.

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the apex power sector planning body, said in its latest report that 50 out of 81 thermal power plants in India are having stocks less than 7 days of consumption in September, the latest period for which data are available. This is the highest number of plants having stocks below the critical level in recent times.

India: City may see more power cuts to even out effects

Fearing a huge electoral backlash during the Lok Sabha polls, the DMK government is considering “equitable” or “uniform” power cuts by increasing the duration of load-shedding in Chennai in order to ease the strain across the countryside.

Electricity shortage in the state currently hovers around 2,000 MW. A high-level meeting was held at the Secretariat on Sunday to discuss a plan to reconcile the needs of various affected sectors including agriculturists, industries and domestic users. The meeting was attended by chief minister M Karunanidhi, power minister Arcot Veeraswami, chief secretary K S Sripathi, finance secretary K Gnanadesikan, energy secretary Smita Nagaraj and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) chairman Machendranathan.

Pakistan: Power shortage crippling industry, says business leader

Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate (QAIE) president Nauman Kabir has expressed fear that the acute shortage of electricity and gas could raise the level of unemployment to new heights besides pushing the whole industrial sector against the wall.

Addressing a meeting of area industrialists here Monday, he said that the ongoing loadshedding has badly affected the textile, plastic and food processing sectors, alongwith all those attached with these sectors, according to a press release.

Pakistan: Islamabad sectors facing unscheduled loadshedding

Unscheduled loadshedding has started in many sectors of the federal capital causing inconvenience to the residents.

It has been learnt that unscheduled power outages in sector F-10, F-11, G-10 and G-11 have started since the past one week and the schedule as given by the local Iesco offices is not being followed. "Power outages at irregular times and for longer duration has become a routine making it a cumbersome task to complete house work", complained housewife, Sana, a resident of G-10.

Philippines: City competitiveness downed by power shortage

THE competitiveness of the highly urbanized city of Iloilo is being downgraded by insufficient power supply that deters many investors from coming and setting up businesses.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas made the announcement recently after coming back from attending the 2008 Local Government Code anniversary conference at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) in Manila.
