Bangladesh: Gas Crisis Deepens in Port City Chittagong

Acute shortage of gas supply has badly hit industrial, power and overall business sectors in the port city of Chittagongof Bangladesh.

Less than one-third of the total daily requirement of gas is now being supplied to the district. Against its requirement of 330 mmcft per day the volume of gas supply is only 100 mmcft.

It may be mentioned that the supply is maintained by Bakhrabad Gas Systems Limited.

India: 'People should cooperate in power conservation efforts'

As the capital reeled under a severe power shortage, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday asked people to "change their mindset" and co-operate with the Delhi government in electricity conservation.

Dikshit said that several areas of the capital are experiencing power cuts due to overdrawing of power from the National Grid by many states.

The state cabinet subcommittee on power on Friday evening approved imposition of emergency load-shedding schedule in view of the acute power shortage facing Maharashtra. As a result, the power cut in urban areas would go up by one hour as compared to the existing scheduled from August 31.

A meeting of the sub-committee on power was convened by chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in the wake of electricity shortfall crossing 4,800 MW. The officials from state utility MSEB said that the demand for power had crossed 14,500 MW while the supply was

India: Power cuts hits textile industry

Frequent power cuts in the past five days had hit hard the textile industry in the district with the load shedding extending beyond the officially declared two-hour load shedding.

Powerloom prdocution had been affected badly, resulting in a loss of production worth Rs 50 lakh daily, industry sources said.

Kenya: Kenya to import crude oil from Sudan

Kenya has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Sudan to facilitate the importation of 500,000 barrels of crude oil monthly into the country.

This will go towards mitigating the oil shortage and high fuel prices in the country.

A press release from the Sudanese Embassy said the MoU was signed by Foreign Affairs Minister Moses Wetangula (pictured right) and his Sudanese counterpart Deng Alor Kuol on August 18, in Nairobi.
